12/31/2023 0 Comments Captain toad treasure tracker ending![]() ![]() While the main story is fairly easy, the optional challenges and time trials can provide real difficulty, which engage a player’s motor skills as well as their mind. That is not to say the game is devoid of the same reflex-based challenge. Players slowly untie the knot of the level until the last breakthrough where the stage unfolds before them - it’s the same rush and feeling of mastery achieved when clearing a section of “Dark Souls,” minus the demonic tone and controller-throwing rage. But rather than forcing them to do so through a constant cycle of death and backtracking, the leisurely pace and cerebral gameplay of “Treasure Tracker” encourages players to attack the level at their own pace. The concept of “learning the level” is, in essence, the same thing that is asked of “Dark Souls” players. The game is played by rotating the camera around the level to glean new information and to allow Toad to access further areas, similar to 2007’s “Super Mario Galaxy.” The way the levels’ moving pieces fit together is nothing short of masterful like the best dungeons from 3D Zelda games, they reward a firm spatial awareness and provide puzzles that urge the player to take a step back and consider the level as a whole interconnected unit. The small, cube-shaped levels look like tiny models or shadow boxes, with tightly interlocking corridors and mechanisms. While “puzzle boxes” might sound like a weird, advertising-buzzword-type way to describe them, there’s no better way to do so. Weighed down by his treasure-filled bag, Toad can’t jump, moves slowly and falls like a brick as he works his way through self-contained puzzle boxes. The game consists of a severely restricted Toad. What emerged, however, was a charming and surprisingly rich little game. Released initially for the Wii U in 2014 - though I’ll be discussing the 2018 Switch port - “Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker” is a stand-alone puzzle game based on the weird, genre-shifting “Toad” levels from 2013’s “Super Mario 3D World.” Since these features in “Super Mario 3D World” were underwhelming levels in an underwhelming game, “Treasure Tracker” seemed destined to fail. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but feel there was a “Souls-”shaped hole in my heart. Whatever the case may be, every attempt I’ve made to sink my teeth into the series has been short-lived. I find the loop structure to be frustrating and kind of boring, though others would argue I lack patience or just need to “ Git Gud”. No matter where the player is dropped, the core skill tested remains the same: the player’s ability to remember and learn the level through a trial and error loop. ![]() Players struggle their way through a quick opening area, face down a terrifying boss and begin working their way through the labyrinthine environments of the fictional Lordran, Yharnam or, uh, Japan. This last piece is the most interesting to me: people delight in the masochistically challenging gameplay of “Dark Souls.” The player is thrust into an unknown and hostile environment, teeming with traps and deadly monsters, with little more than a few short text boxes to serve as guides. Gamers are drawn to its grimly beautiful aesthetics, complex lore told through item descriptions and scenery, and hard-as-nails gameplay. Since “Demon’s Souls,” developer FromSoftware’s punishingly difficult, gothic dark-fantasy, role-playing games, the “Dark Souls” series, have created a whole new genre of games and single-handedly defined the past decade of gaming. 2014’s “Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker” is 2011’s “Dark Souls,” but better.īefore you storm off, let me explain. ![]()

There’s a small museum showing the history of the Cape, a gift store where I bought two water bottles, and even a theater, which shows various short films throughout the day. The Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham is great place to kick off your National Seashore adventure. You only need to pay if you are parking at a beach. If you’re staying closer to Provincetown, you may want to check out the Province Lands Visitor Center first. Because we were on a day trip and we live off-Cape, we first stopped at the Eastham visitor center. First things first: Getting to the Cape Cod National Seashoreīecause the park is so vast, there are two visitor centers: one in Eastham (50 Nauset Rd., Eastham, MA), and one in Provincetown (171 Race Point Rd., Provincetown, MA). Our suggestions will help you plan your trip to the Cape Cod National Seashore if you only have one day. While you can break up these activities into a few days, we decided to go all out and do all of them in one day. Swimming (we went to the beach but didn’t swim more on why later). ![]() We decided to break down our activities into four categories: During our day here, we really had to narrow down what exactly we wanted to do and see. We rented a house in Truro last yr in June and probably five or six were surfing in waves astone’s throw from our chairs!when my sisters and I went into the water( almost no one else there) the seals remained almost beside us! They were not afraid at all! We go out to Cape Cod several times a year for over 50 plus years now, all seasons and different times.we love the Cape so much!!!! If you go to Nauset or Coast Guard Beach in Eastham or Marconi Beach( definitely stop and see the “White Swamp” tucked to left of beach road if you go there! Amazing to see and “Marconi Station!” You will love the “WHITE CEDAR SWAMP”.With over 40,000 acres of protected area, there’s plenty to do at the Cape Cod National Seashore. They seemed to come out in droves around five pm when each was more deserted but they were still there mid-day, too! We saw them at Marconi Station in Wellfleet ( lots), as well. Just about “all the beaches at the “National Seashore have great viewing”, for seals! I have observed them at “all the beaches from Chatham to P’town!” Honestly, the more crowded the beaches are( especially during high season) the less chance of seeing seals but no matter how busy it is you are still bound to catch a glimpse or two of seals bobbing in the ocean waves( so fun to watch)! Chatham( near the lighthouse) has the most and if you go around five or six pm you are bound to see lots, in particular! Just stand up in parking lot, looking down and you will see them! Nauset Beach & Coast Guard Beach, at the National Seashore in Eastham had the most! They were swimming right beside my son surfing, not afraid at all. On the other hand, if you only have several hours, you have to prioritize what you wish to do. In terms of planning, if you enjoy seeing great scenery, hiking, biking, boating, lighthouses, etc, you can easily spend 3 days here or more - which is what we did. But some of the lighthouses were no open to the public or had closed at the end of summer. For example, we toured the Highland Lighthouse also has a highland house museum which required an admission fee. ![]() The light houses were nice to visit, but not all of them were open. We hiked the Fort Hill Trail, Swamp Maple Trail, White Cedar Trail and other locations and found the trails are easy to hike since the land is relatively flat with no large hills or mountains. ![]() There are multiple hiking trails throughout the park located off the beaches for outdoor enthusiasts. There are also multiple lighthouses between Chatham and Provincetown for history buffs. Since it was after Labor Day, there was no park entrance, beach fee. The center also includes a gift shop and you can get maps of the park. We started the visit at the Salt Pond Visitor's Center where they have films about the park and various exhibits illustrating the wildlife and environment within the park. There is so much to see and do here that there is something for everyone. ![]() 12/31/2023 0 Comments Best scenery in alaska![]() ![]() I lost an item in the waiting area for our boat trip, and Lisa and others clearly went out of their way to see that I got it back. One more thing: the company management is clearly customer-focused. Yes, this trip is not cheap - but neither is anything else in Alaska. ![]() The guides were excellent and gave enough information to be informative, but not so much as to feel pedantic or boring. Warm chocolate cookies out of the galley were a very nice touch on a cool trip. The food was very good, if not quite Michelin-star flashy. This company's small catamaran gets far closer to glaciers than the big cruise ship possibly could, and was able to get to the narrow scenic inlets. This was the best shore experience of our cruise. Make sure you have a camera strap around your neck on your camera or a lanyard for your cell phone so you don’t have to worry about dropping it overboard. If you wait to see how you feel to take it, it won’t work as well.ģ. Dramamine causes significant drowsiness and there were many people napping on the boat after taking it, but meclizine is less drowsy. Seas were calm on our trip, but there were a handful of people that were clearly not feeling well. Our family did this and we all felt fine the entire time. Take meclizine (Bonine) for motion sickness an hour before your trip even if you don’t think you’ll need it. Next time I go to Alaska, I’d bring a thin, down-alternative type jacket, thicker gloves (or maybe the mittens with the tops that fold down to expose your fingers for photo taking purposes) and hand/foot warmers.Ģ. It also gave us a good viewing spot when the captain stopped for wildlife since we were already out on the deck. You can go inside to warm up, and many people stayed inside most of the time, but we spent most of our time on the deck to take in the beautiful scenery and not miss any wildlife. My feet and hands got cold but I was otherwise ok. I had 4 layers on top (long-sleeved t-shirt, hoodie, fleece zip-up and lined rain jacket) plus leggings, pants and rain pants, wool socks with hiking boots, fleece stocking hat and light gloves. Dress warm - even though the temps were in the mid 50s, it was rainy on and off and cold on the water. ![]() We highly recommend doing a trip with Major Marine while in Seward!ġ. I considered doing the longer trip the following day myself while my husband and son went hiking, but it would have required an extra 4 hours of driving so didn’t end up doing it. We did a lot of fun things on our trip to the Kenai Peninsula, but this was the top highlight for 2 of the 3 people in our group. At one point, the whales swam right towards and under the boat. This behavior is apparently pretty unusual to see so we feel quite lucky that we were able to witness it. We saw a sea otter, harbor seals, orcas, puffins, auklets, murres, steller sea lions, but the highlight was watching the bubble net feeding of the humpback whales. ![]() Our group of 3 did the 6 hour wildlife tour the first week of July (2023) and it was simply amazing!
